Shantanu received his Bachelor's degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in 2009. He then pursued graduate studies at JQI-University of Maryland where he worked with Chris Monroe on trapped Ytterbium ion experiments. His PhD research focused on performing targeted entangling operations in a multi-qubit device leading to the realization of a small programmable quantum computer. In 2017 he joined Dan Stamper-Kurn's group to work on E6 with an interest in realizing a cavity mediated many-body interacting system with tunability at the single particle level.
